Step to work

Our established extended placement programme has for the last ten years been supporting the young people of Lancashire to learn and develop key employability and vocational skills, through active engagement in working with the business community.

The programme is for those young people (year 10 upwards) who are seeking an alternative provision because the traditional academic route is not suitable, or is not meeting their full needs.

We can arrange an extended work experience placement for up to 3 days per week, in an occupational area of the young person’s choice for example, construction, retail, hair and beauty, health and social care and many more.

The programme is specifically aimed at:

• Those on a reduced and/or flexible timetable
• Those at risk of disengagement and/or exclusion
• Those who would benefit from learning in a work based environment and/or seeking an alternative provision
• School phobic’s or possible history of truancy
• Disaffected and/or poorly motivated towards academic study and/or underachieving

Benefits include:

• Developing personal learning and thinking skills and recognising functional skills
• Developing employability and social skills
• Developing motivation and initiative
• Dealing with different situations and people
• Encourages maturity and responsibility
• Opportunity to work towards an AQA unit award certificate ‘demonstrating success on an extended placement’.
• Can be used to support and enhance Foundation Learning

All placements are with employers who meet Lancashire Education Business Partnership quality standards providing a clear and auditable health and safety pathway.

Please contact our dedicated and experienced team who will discuss your individual requirements with you and advise on our different levels of service ranging from initial health and safety appraisals for self placements through to a fully bespoke placement matching and student monitoring service.
