STEM Ambassadors

STEM Ambassadors are highly skilled professional people who work in any of the Science Technology Engineering or Maths sectors.
The role of a STEM Ambassador is to work in the local community to promote the industry and inspire young people. Anyone who works within the above sectors can become an Ambassador.
All that is needed is the desire and commitment to share your expertise and knowledge with young people.

Lancashire Education Business Partnership work with STEM Ambassadors from a wide variety of disciplines and from diverse backgrounds.
There are currently over 300 Ambassadors trained and CRB cleared ready and willing to work in the local community. Ambassadors can support STEM activities in any of the following: Primary, Secondary and Special schools, local Colleges and Universities.

There is no limit to the exciting STEM opportunities young people can aim for and Lancashire Education Business Partnership works with a multitude of Business, Education and STEM Professional partners to ensure that this message is reinforced in an exciting and educational way.

Who are Ambassadors and what do they do?

Below are  Ambassadors who are involved in the programme:

Pete Wearden was introduced to the STEM Ambassador programme by a Lancashire Education Business Partnership employee. Pete has become a huge asset to the Ambassador programme - delivering the Royal Society of Chemistry- Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Programme to schools across Lancashire for a number of years. He has also run interactive workshops at the Royal Society of Chemistry- ‘A Day in a Lab events’. "Click here for more information" Amie Proud has just completed an Advanced Apprenticeship Programme in Mechanical Manufacturing at Rolls Royce, Barnoldswick.  In the final year of Amie’s apprenticeship, she was asked to develop a community project with local primary schools.  She decided that in order to engage with the schools she would join the STEM Ambassador Programme which is organised through Lancashire Education Business Partnership.  "Click here for more information" My Name is Emma McInerney and for the past eighteen years I have worked for BAE Systems, in the Military Air Solutions (MAS) part of its business. The company designs, builds and maintains military aircraft like the Typhoon, Tornado, F-35 and Hawk for our UK and overseas customers.  I started as an apprentice at sixteen working as an electrician on the aircraft and was sponsored to go to Loughborough University where I did a Masters Degree in Systems Engineering.  I am now a Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Engineering and Technology and a STEM Ambassador, all on top of the day job.   "Click here for more information" I am Julie Fenelon; aged 46 years, married with two daughters aged 20 & 17 currently working for the Co-operative Financial Services. I manage a co-ordinated education and training programme that works in partnership with West Lancashire schools and Lancashire Education Business Partnership. The training programme draws on the expertise and experience of Co-operative employees to help improve the aspirations of young people. "Click here for more information"

The input given by the STEM Ambassador is crucial in ensuring young people gain valuable experience and insights into the range of exciting careers within the STEM arena. Within Lancashire the current profile of Ambassadors is reflective of the key STEM employment sectors in the local area. It is vital that there are Ambassadors who are able to showcase their expertise and help raise future aspirations. The current profile of Ambassadors includes: Senior Chemical Engineer, Quality Manager, Pilot and Nuclear Safety Manager. These are just a few and whatever your specialism is in we want to hear from you.

We are always looking for new STEM Ambassadors who are keen to work with the local community and participate in key activities.
