EXPO

Welcome to the EXPO 2011 page

This January over thirteen hundred pupils will be introduced to employers from a range of industries in one giant EXPO event, designed to give pupils an insight into the different career options, and the routes available in the confusing maze that is the world of work.

Held at the Norbreck Castle Hotel, Blackpool, the Fylde and Wyre EXPO is to be held on the 19 and 20 January. From workshops teaching the value of money to mini assault courses arranged by the Army, there will be a wide range of interactive workshops and activities available for the students to get stuck into. The whole purpose of this event is, through employer engagement, to build on the student’s knowledge of the working world, and through the provision of high quality information, advice and guidance, provide the students with inspiration, focus, and savvy so they can fulfill their potential.

From Springfields Fuels to the Army, the employers who are kindly donating their time will be exhibiting their companies, performing talks, workshops and presentations to offer the students some much needed information into career paths, required qualifications and the day to day runnings involved in the roles.

Students’ engaging with Employers is becoming an increasingly adopted notion, schools are increasingly wanting external assistance to supplement the curriculum. A recent report driven by the advisory body KPMG, suggests “Schools believe that as well as adding to the skills of the young people, partnerships with employers inspire and motivate young people, who not only see the possibilities that they have after school, but understand to a greater extent the importance of their school work."

These EXPO events run by the merged organisations Lancashire Education Business Partnership and CXL are not the first of their kind. Held at Accrington and Rossendale college in 2010 was the EXPO 2010 for the Hyndburn Rossendale and Ribble Valley schools. This event brought in nearly 2500 students who gained some focus, motivation and inspiration from the event. A pupil from St.Christopher’s School commented “It was really good to go because it gave you ideas that you probably wouldn’t think about.”
