A Preston student has received national recognition for his performance on a work experience programme from the Lancashire Education Business Partnership (LEBP).
Stephen Edwards, from Archbishop Temple School, is one of only six students from Lancashire to be nominated for the prestigious national McDonalds Work Experience Award 2007.
Stephen spent two weeks within the Business Support Team, Typhoon Major Units at BAE Systems, Samlesbury where he left a lasting impression because of his excellent attention to detail, innovative solutions and high level of enthusiasm.
Emma Woan, Work Based Development Manager for LEBP, said: “We are very pleased with the ongoing success of our work experience programme in Lancashire and are thrilled that Stephen has been nominated for the award.
“We continually strive to engage young people with industry-based learning opportunities and without the support of employers such as BAE Systems this wouldn’t be possible.”
Michael Wright, Production Manager at Typhoon Major Units said “Stephens manner, insightfulness and consideration to the tasks and people he was involved with left the team at Samlesbury in no doubt that he has the potential to be a future asset.”
During his time at BAE Systems, Stephen carried out various tasks including building up a deeper understanding of the processes within the production line.
Stephen said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time on placement and with each task I undertook I aspired to achieve it to the best of my ability.”
Mary Yates, Work Experience Co-ordinator at Archbishop Temple School, said: “Stephen had a fantastic two weeks and both the school and employer were very impressed with his input and achievement.”
Three Pendle students have received national recognition for their performance on a work experience programme from the Lancashire Education Business Partnership (LEBP).
Jennifer Hobson, Rebecca Robertson and Stevi Hoyle have been nominated for the prestigious national McDonalds Work Experience Award 2007.
The trio, from Pendle Vale College, make up half of Lancashire’s nominations and were hand-picked from 16,000 year 10 students in the county that participated in the work experience programme.
The girls all had very different, but equally successful placements: Jennifer spent her two weeks with Brierfield Primary Care Trust creating leaflets on healthy eating and dealing with patients; Rebecca was a classroom assistant at Marsden Primary School, and Stevi spent time in court and filing case notes for JGT Solicitors.
LEBP works in partnership with schools and colleges across Lancashire by co-ordinating their work experience programmes and by recruiting and supporting employers through providing advice and guidance on working with young people.
Gillian Beeley, Chief Executive of LEBP, said: “We are very pleased with the ongoing success of our work experience programme in Lancashire and are thrilled that the girls have been nominated for this prestigious national award.
“We continually strive to engage young people with industry-based learning opportunities and without the supportive employers and teachers it wouldn’t be possible.”
Sue Husband, Head Education Manager at McDonald's, said: “McDonald's believes work experience is fundamental to a young person's preparation for the work place. By sponsoring McDonald's Work Experience Award with the National Education Business Partnership Network we are recognising the quality placements offered by businesses and encouraging other business to support, EBP's and schools in organising relevant placements for young people."
Rosie Hudson, Work Experience Coordinator at Pendle Vale, said: “Work experience is a great opportunity to give pupils a taste of work, and the world outside school, it builds character and confidence.
“We are so proud of the girls, they are a real credit to themselves and the school.”
