Aimhigher
The Aimhigher project is designed to help more young people from a diverse range of backgrounds access further (FE) and higher (HE) education.
The project's main aim is to provide a safe and secure environment to enable Year 10 and 11 students to discuss issues with FE/HE students via email. This will help the Mentee to gain a better understanding of university and college life and the progression route in general.
By becoming involved in the programme and receiving one-to-one support, the Mentee will develop their communication, literacy, ICT, time management and organisational skills.
The key aims that underpin the Aimhigher e-mentoring project are to:
-
Break down the barriers to progression into further and higher education;
-
Raise aspirations of students;
-
Be inclusive and embrace diversity;
-
Raise awareness of the opportunities and progression routes into higher education;
-
Offer a support network and an opportunity to share experiences;
-
Support students with potential who may not see HE as an option because of their social background, low aspirations and low self-esteem for example.
